I like the character design, but one suggestion to the painting.
All of the little folds, while telling, are a little distracting optically. You decided to render them as a chiaroscuro light vs. shadow. I think while in the sketching stage, a more graphic approach would be cleaner, faster and be stronger.
For inspiration, look at artists like John Singer Sargent who used light/shadow modeling on the face, but used shape and graphic light/dark on the clothes and background.
